What is “Norwegian War and FieldPost” ?

This collector’s field within philately comprises civil and militarycensorship connected to Norway in the previous as wellas in this century. Obviously most members are interested in WW II mail. From1940 to 1945 Norway was occupied by German forces. This period became animportant part of Norway’s contemporary history, which not least is reflectedin the postal history. Military and civil censorship were part of both theNorwegian and German control of communications.

Studies of the field post and its routing and handling is the main topic in The Society’sactivities. Norwegian field post in peacetime is also a rich area forcollectors. Norwegian UN personnel have been engaged as peacekeeping forcesaround the world. This results in new Norwegian fieldpost history.
